Klamath, California

Our latest adventure led us to the awe-inspiring Redwoods, and it was nothing short of magical. Here's a glimpse into our enchanting journey.

Nestled along the serene Klamath River, the Klamath River RV Park was our cozy base camp. The park’s lush surroundings and peaceful ambiance provided the perfect backdrop for exploring this inspiring region.

Our first stop was the Lady Bird Johnson Grove, a tranquil forest path surrounded by towering redwoods. Walking among these ancient giants was a humbling experience, they are truly massive. The sunlight filtering through the canopy created a mystical atmosphere, making it feel like we had stepped into a fairy tale.

We toured many redwood glens and forested areas like the cathedral of trees, feeling like we were transported straight into scenes from "Return of the Jedi" and "E.T." The towering trees and lush greenery created an otherworldly experience.

Next, we ventured to Fern Canyon, a lush, narrow gorge adorned with cascading ferns. The canyon’s walls, dripping with greenery, created a living tapestry that felt almost prehistoric. It’s easy to see why this location was chosen for scenes in movies like "Jurassic Park."

One of the highlights of our trip was exploring the tidal pools along the coast. These natural aquariums were teeming with vibrant sea life, from colorful anemones to scuttling crabs. It was like diving into a miniature marine world without getting wet! Just be careful not to mix up your tide pools with your Tide pods – the latter might clean your clothes but won't offer nearly as much fun.

We couldn't resist the local obsession with banana slugs. These bright yellow, slimy creatures are a quirky emblem of the redwood forests. Spotting one is considered good luck, and they’re surprisingly cute in a bizarre, slimy way.  Make sure to check underfoot on the trails—the yellow leaf might just be a banana slug!

The Redwoods have a way of capturing your heart with their timeless beauty and serene presence. From the towering giants of Lady Bird Johnson Grove, to the lush greenery of Fern Canyon, and the vibrant life within the tide pools, this trip was uniquely special compared to the vistas available in Oklahoma. If you haven’t experienced the magic of the Redwoods yet, add it to your bucket list – you won’t be disappointed!
